The B Board is building in public. This Board is here-and-now and looking ahead to the future. We* love the concept of a bulletin board filled with topical forums around need-to-know info, shared interests or curiosities and interesting people with ideas and something to say.
We*’re building a board we*’d feel comfortable with and at home in – an online home away from (or within) home. Something familiar but different.
The B Board is flexible. Topics aren’t necessarily static – some stuff can stay or go by consensus or vote; most stuff will be free; some stuff will be private/by invite only or will sit behind pay walls.
Real life is enough. Forums here generally veer towards informative and/or insightful, witty and/or wonderful, bright and/or brief, serious and/or sensational from the perspectives and sensitivities of Black Americans.
What We* Believe About What We* “Do” Here
We believe in the power of self-expression – via poetry, prose, story/time, commentary, community – as an outlet, as a stress reliever, and to gain clarity. This is The B Board’s main focus.
Who We* Are and What We* Believe
—> We* are Black Americans – descendants of the people who were enslaved in the United States, worked the land and built the economy of the richest country in the world.
—> We* believe Black American ethnic culture (both well-known and hypervisible, lesser-known and quiet) is valuable and beautiful and should be preserved, promoted and gate-kept.
—> We* are community-minded and self-interested, and unapologetic about it.
All of the above colors and informs the way we* move in our worlds and the filters through which we* see|think|feel|discuss things here no matter what the topic is.
The B Board Encourages FUNctional Community
We*’re having fun in the function of building and being a part of a stable community of writers, extroverts, creators, introverts, Type As, builders, Type Bs, thinkers, doers, regulars, degulars.
And WE* RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE OUR MINDS – about the site’s direction, topics, forums, content – at any time.
We*, meaning a small group of dedicated, committed, chronically-online Black Americans who grew disillusioned with other online watering holes and drifted off to set about creating a space we’d want to occupy and drink from every day.
